It’s time to grab your yoga mats - the popular Slow Food & Yoga Festival is on its way back to Gili Air! After its establishment as a successful part of the month-long Gili Menggawe Festival earlier this year in June, Gili Air’s community is joining forces for the second edition. The Festival will run from October 17th – 20th 2019 and is being organised by the tribe of the Soraya Foundation.
The purpose of the Slow Food & Yoga Festival is to share the authentic beauty of Gili Air’s people and nature with visitors and locals alike. The Festival will also present opportunities to foster connections and valuable partnerships between locals and expats.
Over the four days, festival-goers will have the opportunity to kick off their shoes and wander the vehicle-free island exploring Gili Air culture through yoga, food, performance, and art. The festival will kick off with an opening ceremony on the 17th of October and lead into various activities around the island.
Yoga is a fundamental part of the Slow Food and Yoga Festival. During the four days, attendees can find their inner peace in assorted yoga classes run by acclaimed facilitators in various locations across Gili Air.
Slow Food, a movement focused on growing your own, eating locally and seasonally is an equally important part of the festival. Festival-goers are invited to sample delicious cuisine from famous Indonesian chefs at various locations around the island.
Aside from yoga and food, many other workshops and sessions are also being held. Thai massage workshops, therapeutic workshops, handstand workshops, ecstatic dance workshops, women’s/ men’s circles, sound healing, and local school performances are just some of the many events that will be held across the island during the Festival.
Additionally, several local charities will be manning market stalls to fundraise for their causes. The Pituq Foundation, which focuses on supporting the underprivileged and earthquake survivors to rebuild lives, and the Daur Project, concerned with finding sustainable solutions for environmental issues will be represented. Please support them generously!
The festivities continue on Gili Trawangan with a triathlon being held on the 19th of October.
The Slow Food & Yoga Festival will conclude with an exciting closing celebration on the 20th of October.
All proceeds from the Slow Food and Yoga Festival will go to the Soraya Foundation. Your ticket purchase will allow their upcoming projects to continue running - including helping the Gili Eco Tribe to work alongside Gili Cares to resolve recycling and rubbish issues, as well as supporting education initiatives in the community.
Businesses supporting the Festival and hosting events include Camilla Beach Club, Pura Vida Restaurant, Mexican Kitchen, Flowers and Fire Yoga Garden, H2O Yoga and Meditation, Kenza Village, Slow Villas & Spa, Le Bistro, Captain Coconuts and Gililife Magazine.
